Cardinal de Richelieu Rose
Zone 4a - Belgium. Parmentier, 1840 - 1m / 3ft
Parentage: unknown, Rosa gallica hybrid
This is a quintessential rose for fans of purple. The globular buds open to form perfectly symmetrical flowers, almost mum-like in appearance and very double, blooming for approximately 4-6 weeks. The plant stays relatively small, reaching heights of about 1 meter. Cardinal de Richelieu has an intense fragrance. One of the toughest of the Rosa gallicas, it is hardy to at least -37°C / -35°F. Susceptible to some black spot near the bottom of the bush, but never enough to mar the appearance of the plant. Will sucker as it ages.
