Gala has become the number one cultivar around the world. It hails from New Zealand. The medium size fruit is somewhat conical and the skin yellow with red blush. Some newer sports have been found that produce more solid red. It is a mild sweet apple with enough acidity to keep it from being flat. The tree is an annual producer of good crops. It is grown in Zone 4 with good results.
