Parentage: A sport of the popular Cortland apple
Red Cortland is a striking variation of the classic Cortland apple, characterized by its deep red skin with a vibrant blush. The flesh remains juicy, pure white, and crisp, offering a balance of sweet and tart flavours. Like its parent, it resists browning when cut, making it ideal for fresh eating or use in salads. The tree shares the same large, rounded, and spreading habit, with a distinctive pendulous growth pattern. Red Cortland ripens in early October and stores well, maintaining freshness until December in cold storage. It has similar disease resistance to the original Cortland, including resistance to canker and collar rot, but may still be susceptible to apple scab and other common apple diseases.
