Forsythia × ovata ‘Northern Gold’

This plant was bred by Felicitas Svejda when working for the Canadian Department of Agriculture. She crossed the European forsythia, which is not bud hardy in colder areas, with the Korean forsythia, which is much hardier. One of the seedlings was named Northern Gold. Not only does it reliably produce bright golden flowers in early spring, its foliage does not brown on the edges as many do. The gold standard forsythia for the -40° club. A dominating shrub that soars upward and outward and is simply astounding in spring.
