Ambrosia Apple
Zone 4 - British Columbia. ca. 1990 - semi-dwarf rootstock
Dessert
Midseason
Parentage: Believed to be a cross between Golden Delicious and Starking Delicious
Ambrosia is reminiscent of Golden Delicious in form, being conic to oblong, and the yellow background of the peeling is also similar, but with orange-red striping. This colour change extends from the stem to just past the midpoint of the fruit, on the side of the apple most exposed to the sun.
The aromatics of this fruit make you feel like you are sipping on a banana-pear-apple smoothie, possibly with notes of vanilla in the background. Skin is barely noticeable and the flesh melts away. This flesh does not brown quickly, ideal for using in a salad. One of the most popular apples in the market today.
