Cider
Late season
This apple is unsuitable for eating, or cooking, but some consider it capable of producing a varietal cider. Many use Brown’s apple to add acidity into the mix. It is high in sugar, has some bitterness, and is highly regarded for its fragrance. The skin is nearly all red with large, soft pink lenticels.
The tree is vigorous and spreads with age. It is extremely productive in alternate years, as it has a biennial tendency. It is a very late apple, with zone 4 appearing to be its northern limit.
