Early season
Parentage: Raritan × PRI 1018-9
This early apple keeps very well when refrigerated and will maintain a crisp texture for weeks after being picked. Redfree is an apple introduced by Purdue, Rutgers, and the University of Illinois as a scab-resistant cultivar, and it remains a superb choice. Redfree’s flavour is mild, and sweet with a hint of tartness, and it is very juicy. This tree is at its limit of hardiness in zone 4, with winter injury occurring at -35°C / -31°F. Be careful of European canker if winter injury does occur. The tree, leaves, and fruit are resistant to cedar apple rust, apple scab, powdery mildew, and fireblight.
