Minnesota 78 is a superb reddish-blue grape known for its exceptional sweetness, making it one of the sweetest varieties available. This hardy grape is perfect for fresh eating and also produces excellent wine. Disease-resistant and highly productive, it was bred at the University of Minnesota, possibly as a cross between Beta and Jessica. Used extensively in Elmer Swenson's breeding work, this variety is beloved for its taste, and few can compare when fully ripened. Grows best in well-drained soil with a pH of 6–7.
