Mid-late season

Parentage: McIntosh × PRI 1018-3
Novamac is a cross between McIntosh, and a scab free seedling. This tree is an annual producer and will start bearing fruit quite young. Novamac is hardy to -35°C/-31°F and can survive -40°C/-40°F with minimal injury. The fruit itself has a green skin background that becomes blushed red over nearly the entire surface. The flesh is white to slightly greenish with a flavour virtually identical to McIntosh, but more vinous as it matures. It ripens around the beginning of October in New Brunswick, but can be picked earlier if you like your apples more tart. Novamac will keep in common storage until mid-winter if it is picked at the right time, and until June in controlled atmosphere storage. We think this is one of the best disease resistant apples for quality and productivity and should be in the orchard of anyone who wishes to grow organically.
