Picea abies ‘Tabuliformis’

This is one of our favorite conifers. Rather than growing upright, it creates horizontal layers that spread outward. A 20 year old specimen will likely be no more than 1.5m tall but might be 4m wide. Totally unique form in the world of conifers. A Norway spruce selection found as a witch’s broom in 1865 in Trianon, Versailles, France, although apparently a very similar plant was found in Sweden.
