Metasequoia glyptostroboides

An ancient tree, previously thought extinct, rediscovered by botanists in 1941 in a remote area of Hupeh Province, China. Now planted around the temperate world, it features a pyramidal habit with a dominant vertical trunk. This deciduous conifer sheds its feathery needles in fall and prefers a sunny location. It has proven hardy in Zone 4.
