An unusually shaped apple with noticeable ridges. It is perfect for apple pies of any kind. Calville Blanc D’Hiver keeps its shape when cooked and its sweet-tart profile is perfect for cooking. It is still popular in France and considered the quintessential apple for tarts. The flesh is creamy white, juicy, fine grained, and sweet; the flavour gives distinctive nods to banana. The tree is a vigorous grower with upright branches that tend to droop, reminiscent of a willow. Annual bearing and produces quite young.
