Many years ago, Pumpkin Sweet was the apple for baking. As you might imagine from the name, the apple is very large when well grown. The skin starts as green and shifts into a clear yellow, with some marbling of yellow-green colour and possibly some brownish-red blush, but never red. The tree itself is vigorous and upright with large hefty branches, and tends to be biennial in production. Thinning the tree can help avoid this. The flavour of a freshly picked Pumpkin Sweet is noted to be strange but agreeable. It has low acidity with a distinct sweetness.
