Dessert, cider
Late season
Parentage: Unknown
A very famous dessert and cider apple, extremely hardy, surviving temperatures down to -40. More often, the limiting factor of the Golden Russet is length of season. The flesh is fine, dense and aromatic. Great care must be taken to harvest when the fruit is fully mature. In New Brunswick this is typically in early November. The apple will have a green taste if it’s picked too early. This is not an apple to eat at harvest as the fullness of the flavour is something that is developed in storage for at least a month. It is a choice apple for making hard cider.
